About 50 people held a candlelight vigil at Cesar Chavez Plaza Thursday as part of the ongoing Occupy Phoenix demonstration that has lasted since Oct. 15.

The demonstrators took a moment of silence in respect of Scott Olsen, a 24-year-old former Marine who was injured in a clash between police and Occupy Oakland protesters on Tuesday.

After the moment of silence, individuals took turns expressing their thoughts and feelings about the incident.

One demonstrator’s comment that the action by the Oakland police would “not go unpunished” was met with boos and hand gestures of disapproval. Most other comments were met with cheers as they discussed personal struggles of present veterans.

Five members of the Phoenix Police Department watched the ceremony from a distance.
