The shuttle departs from the West Campus at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. It then stops at the Downtown campus at 10:30 and finishes its route at the Tempe campus at 11, according to the official schedule provided by USGW. The shuttle makes the same stops in reverse order on its return trip.
Shuttles headed to Tempe stop on Polk Street between First and Central avenues every two hours from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The returning shuttles stop at the same location every two hours from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on their way to West.
The service runs on the same two-hour rotation on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to Tempe and 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. to West.
USGW received positive feedback on the initial run, USGW Chief of Staff Daniel Anaya said.
Free inter-campus shuttles previously only ran during the school week. The idea of providing a free weekend shuttle arose when students voiced their desire for transportation between campuses over the weekend, Anaya said.
“Students at West said they were looking for ways to get to the other campuses on the weekend and use the other campuses’ resources,” he said. “We heard that our students wanted a weekend shuttle and we wanted to make it happen.”
The shuttle currently does not stop at the Polytechnic campus, but USGW has provided them with shuttle information, Anaya said.
USGW Secretary Aisling Serki said she hopes to see increased student involvement with other campus activities because of the new shuttle service. Serki participates in a Tempe-based sorority, and said the shuttle “will make my life easier.”
“This shuttle will make it easier to make connections with the other campuses,” she said.
Criminal justice freshman Kyle Kowalski took the shuttle every morning last semester because he had a class in Tempe. This semester his classes are downtown, but he still utilizes the shuttle to visit friends.
Kowalski said he is excited for the free weekend shuttle because he has more time to visit friends over the weekend.
“I think it is an amazing thing,” he said.
