Shade trees outside Hanny’s removed by restaurant, prompting city reaction
The mature shade trees outside of Hanny’s restaurant and bar, which once protected pedestrians from the sun and promoted sustainability, were removed on the morning of Sept. 12.
Parking-meter hours change; city officials try to effectively inform public of adjustments
The City Council voted unanimously Feb. 1 to cut the downtown parking meter hours and install them with credit card readers. Although the adjusted parking-meter hours are currently in effect, many people remain unaware of the change.
Some Phoenix residents want dog park, not parking lot
Sean Sweat, treasurer and resident of the St. Croix Villas located near Filmore and First streets, said a parking lot would do more harm to the city than good because the black top would cause more heat during the summer months and it would eliminate foot-traffic around the area.
