An earlier version of this article misstated the number of ideas pitched at Startup Weekend Phoenix. Thirty-nine ideas were pitched, not 21.

  1. Thanks for stopping by Kendra! It was an amazing weekend.

    We actually had 39 ideas pitched (plus, several of the ideas were pitched by students), 10 ideas chosen, 9 teams formed and 8 teams made it to the final presentation on Sunday. The teams worked extremely hard each day toward the end goal of having a working prototype, marketing plan and business model.

    On Sunday, our panel of judges listened to each 5 minute presentation, asked questions and then deliberated afterward to choose several winners.

    The results:

    * People’s choice award: Fitty, an iPad application for making fitness a fun adventure
    * Best Noble Intent: Flung Art, a community studio promoting hands-on art education
    * Best Demo: Fitty
    * Overall Winner: Tipulate, a location base iPhone app for tipping

    We hope this is the first of a more regular schedule of Startup Weekend events in Phoenix.
