Welcome back to the Downtown Digest! It’s time to take a look at what events downtown Phoenix has coming up this next week with your guide, T.J. Triolo. We’ve got quite the lineup, with the 30th anniversary of the Artlink Art Detour and St. Patrick’s Day in the same week. Here’s what we’ve got coming up:

  • Wednesday, March 14
  • 5:15 p.m.
  • Hance Park, 67 W. Culver St.

Admit it: You’re probably not meeting your 10,000-step goal every day, are you? Well, this event on Wednesday can help change that. WalkPHX is a meetup where people can walk a 3.2-mile route together. It’s a free activity for all ages, and if you don’t have 10,000 steps after this… Well, I don’t know what you’d do then. You’d need professional help.

Art d’Core Gala

  • Thursday, March 15
  • 6 – 9 p.m.
  • Warehouse 215 @ Bentley Projects, 215 E. Grant St.

The Artlink Arts Council is putting on its 30th annual Art Detour festival celebrating local art, and the Art d’Core Gala kicks it off. This gala will feature artwork, community representatives from the arts community, and music and dancing. Additionally, Mayor Greg Stanton will give his final “Toast to Downtown” at the event. So as P!nk said in a popular song of hers, come on and raise your glass if you’ve gone wrong in all the right ways to celebrate 30 years of Art Detour! Tickets cost $20 per person.

Old School 90s R&B and Hip Hop Dance Party

  • Friday, March 16
  • 10:30 p.m.
  • Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. 2nd Ave.

Whether you grew up in the ’90s or just like the music, get ready to dance to some music from an era that was already 20 years ago. It seems to me like I was just thinking of the ’80s as 20 years ago, but here I am, almost 20 years old, and I was born in 1998… Now I’m dating myself, and I’m too young to do that. Anyway, at this event DJ Slick 76 and DJ Melo will be picking the tracks for the party, including songs from the Wu-Tang Clan, the Notorious B.I.G., and Ice Cube. So bring your best moves and ’90s clothes and have some fun! Tickets cost $3 in advance and $5 the day of the event.

25th Annual St. Paddy’s Day Street Party

  • Saturday, March 17
  • 9 a.m.
  • Seamus McCaffrey’s, 18 W. Monroe St.

It’s time for the Irish to shine again on St. Patrick’s Day. This party, put on by Irish pub Seamus McCaffrey’s, is the 25th annual one. The party will feature food, bands, and in the Irish tradition, plenty of beer. The event description on the Downtown Phoenix events calendar even encourages attendees to drink “many pints.” Hey, it’s a holiday! All proceeds will go to the United Phoenix Firefighters Emerald Society, a charitable foundation for Phoenix-area firefighters interested in Irish culture. Tickets cost $10.

Irish Celebration of Tea

  • Saturday, March 17
  • First seating at 11 a.m.
  • Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central Ave.

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t just for alcoholic beverages; Tea is also an important part of Irish culture, and this event celebrates its role in the culture. This event will teach aspects of tea’s role in Irish culture, including etiquette and the history of tea in Ireland. Participants will get to drink tea and eat Irish soda bread, which I’ve never heard of before. Considering that it’s bread, it sounds good to me; I don’t think I’ve met any variety of bread I didn’t like. Tickets cost $25 with admission to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Faire.
