
Corina Tapscott’s presidential ticket is running unopposed in this week’s Undergraduate Student Government Downtown elections, but that didn’t stop us at the Downtown Devil from assembling a full breakdown of the campaign’s platform including both its goals and plans. This information was compiled from the campaign’s website and an interview with the three members of the ticket.

Engage students
Goal: Become the “most open government in downtown history”
• Executives will respond to emails within 24 hours
• Create a regularly updated blog of actions taken by USGD and a forum where bills can be discussed
• Enforce policy of posting an agenda 24 hours before meetings and minutes 48 hours after they are approved
• Create and maintain a calendar of USGD and local events on USGDowntown.com
Goal: Engage students in policy issues
• Present and talk about current events at events including “Movies in the Park” hosted by the Programming and Activities Board
• Create training sessions to show how individual students and organizations can have an impact in government at all levels
• Register more voters in conjunction with the Andrew Goodman Foundation
• Create a guide showing how students can get involved in politics and advocate for public policy issues
Advocate for equitable resources
Goal: Increase lobbying strength and affect change at university, city and state levels
• Look at adding a new executive board position to attend all public meetings and be a lobbyist for USGD
• Communicate weekly with university’s Office of Public Affairs about lobbying efforts
• Lobbying at city and state for university-related legislation
• Communicate with government affairs representatives at the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University student governments
Goal: Increase downtown facilities offered
• Look into creating a formal library or modifying current information commons in the University Center depending on student feedback
• Continue efforts to create a ticket distribution center for downtown students
Goal: Improve parking downtown
• Work with lot owners to lower prices
• Ask city to utilize event parking garages during off-peak hours for students
• Ask city to improve on-street parking for students
Goal: Increase student safety
• Get proper levels of police staffing
• Promote the LiveSafe app
• Increase regularity of safety walks by holding them monthly
• Replace broken streetlights and other environmental hazards
Empower student organizations
Goal: Strengthen student organizations
• Provide access to reduced cost or free printing
• Provide training for organizations about Photoshop and starting nonprofits
• Research alternatives to OrgSync
• Give students more control over Sun Devil Coalition agenda
• Make funding request cycle accessible
