Sometimes, events come up and the existing contents of your wardrobe will just not cut it. Meeting for an interview at Starbucks? A professional blouse would be nice. A concert at Comerica Theatre? It may be time to get your hands on a crop top.
While there is no mall in downtown Phoenix, there are still places in the city bursting with racks of clothes just waiting for you to scoop them up. Whether it is a big chain store or a small local favorite, there is something for everyone. Here is a round-up of my five favorite spots for apparel in downtown Phoenix:
Antique Sugar Vintage Clothing
If you’re feeling daring, have the urge to emulate a 1920s flapper or find yourself in the mood for mod, Antique Sugar Vintage on McKinley and Second streets is the place for you. Rich colors and fabrics from all eras define the vintage duds at this newer downtown Phoenix shop. If you want to score a deal, pop in this weekend and every last Saturday and Sunday of the month to find everything is 50 percent off.

Hours:
Sunday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Support local artists by popping in to the Roosevelt Growhouse, a community garden that houses retail space GROWop. The boutique is located on Roosevelt and Sixth street and sells vintage and handcrafted goods. Consider this your stop for striped tees, plaid flannels, and truly one-of-a-kind accessories with an Arizona flair.
Hours:
Wednesday-Sunday, 12 p.m.-7 p.m.
A hipster favorite, Urban Outfitters in CityScape is your place for high-waisted shorts, bulky sweaters, printed rompers and lacy bralettes. They have a section for other quintessentially cool accessories, like fun emoji stickers and all of the celebrity autobiographies you’ve been meaning to snag. The brand’s Arizona Instagram page is also a great source for some major outfit inspiration and is great if you like cacti, coffee and brunch.
Hours:
Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
All the glimmering accessories at this chain store are organized by color, so if you desperately need something coral or mint green, the Charming Charlie in CityScape is your best chance at success. Statement necklaces, rose gold watches and all sorts of chunky bracelets are staples of this brand known for their pretty and preppy jewelry. They also have racks of bright and feminine clothes, so you can create a whole new (well-accessorized) outfit in one stop.
Hours:
Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sunday, 12 p.m.-6 p.m.
If you’re jonesing to channel Hillary Clinton or need a blazer and trousers for a more professional engagement, hit up the New York & Company to find business clothes on a budget. Its location in the Arizona Center makes it a prime stop to catch a movie or grabbing a Starbucks after your busy shopping day.
Hours:
Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Sunday, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
If you prefer to shop in the comfort of your pajamas (a tempting option as the temperatures steadily creep up), visit the store’s websites for some online browsing.
