Cat experts visited Crescent Ballroom Thursday night to inform a crowd about the ways to maintain a cat-friendly home.
Jackson Galaxy, star of Animal Planet’s series “My Cat from Hell”, and Kate Benjamin of online magazine Hauspanther, co-wrote Catify to Satisfy — a follow-up to their first book Catification.
“As soon as we finished Catification, something stopped us from moving on,” Galaxy said to the crowd. “And it was you guys: A whole bunch of people said, ‘you didn’t address this,’ or ‘(you) didn’t go there enough.’”
Galaxy, famous for helping people turn their “cats from hell” into manageable pets, said he is still timid with his efforts.
“I would go into houses who had six cats and one liter box in the garage, under the wheel. And I’d be afraid that they’d get mad at me for saying they were doing it wrong.”
While Benjamin shared tips for caring for cats, Galaxy told the audience about litter-box maintenance.
“Do you realize they’re doing us such a huge favor when they crap in a box?” he joked.
In order to get your cat comfortable with the rest of the house, Galaxy and Benjamin created a “base-camp expansion,” which is an effort to spread your cat’s scent across the home without sacrificing hygiene.
“One of the key things in Catification is making your home not look like the home of a crazy cat lady,” Benjamin said.
The pair are now taking it upon themselves to make their way into the shelter industry.
“We’re starting to extend the Catification design into shelters, that way people can walk in and see what the possibilities are,” Benjamin said.
