The 31st annual Arizona Matsuri Festival took place this weekend in Heritage Square Park.
Thousands of attendees made their way downtown to watch performances, buy all variety of Japanese swag and do some fantastic people watching. Dance, martial artistry, taiko drumming and a candy man named Shan ruled the event stages. It was cosplayers and food vendors, however, that formed the heartbeat of the festival.
Bonus: The theme for this year’s Matsuri was Tanuki, a playful trickster known for not paying the tab.
