The Arrogant Butcher, an upscale restaurant in downtown Phoenix’s CityScape plaza, opened Monday to the public.

Owned by local restaurateur Sam Fox, The Arrogant Butcher is Fox Restaurant Concepts’ first foray into downtown Phoenix.

“It’ll be a cool scene spot for everyone from the button-down business crowd having power lunches, to event-goers who are heading downtown for a game,” said Jennifer Daniels, spokeswoman for RED Development, CityScape’s developer.

Promotional events for the opening began Wednesday, Feb. 16, with a dinner with the Arizona State Bar to benefit the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the restaurant hosted events with guests including Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, the Phoenix Suns, the Greater Phoenix Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the Phoenix New Times and various Arizona State senators including Senate President Russell Pearce, among others.

Fox Restaurant Concepts now operates 13 restaurants in 30 locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas and Texas, according to their website. Twenty-five of the restaurants are in Arizona, and 10 are in Scottsdale.

Among Fox’s most popular restaurants are Sauce, a pizza and wine eatery with six locations in the Valley, three in Tucson and one in Denver, and NoRTH, a modern Italian restaurant with two locations in the Valley, one in Tucson, one in Denver, one in Leawood, Kan., and one in Austin, Texas.

This is the third time Fox has put one of his restaurants in a plaza designed by RED Development; one Sauce location is at The Shops at Norterra in north Phoenix, and a NoRTH is located at One Nineteen in Leawood, Kan.

The Arrogant Butcher is located at the southwest corner of CityScape, at East Jefferson and North First streets.

The restaurant will be open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. It features an extensive cocktail, beer and wine menu, and its entrées range from $15 to $35. It also has a cheese menu, a charcuterie (menu of cold meats) and a “raw bar” with oysters, shrimp, mussels, crab and lobster.

The breakfast menu ranges from $8 to $10 and the lunch menu offers many of the sandwiches and salads from the dinner menu.

“We’re really excited about The Arrogant Butcher because it’s a brand new concept from Sam Fox, who’s very well known and acclaimed,” Daniels said. “It’s local and we think it’ll be a good addition to downtown.”
