ASASUD announced early Wednesday morning that only one student will be running for president of the Downtown campus next year.
Criminal justice and criminology undergraduate Joseph Grossman will run along with fellow criminal justice and criminology undergraduate David Bakardjiev unopposed.
After the candidates were announced around 12:30 a.m. on ASASUD’s website, Grossman was unable to be reached for comment.
There are also only four senators running for the 12 available Senate seats next fall. All are running unopposed.
“I wish we would have had more turnout, but I’m not surprised,” freshman Sen. Daiyaan Colbert said. “This is kind of expected.”
Write-in candidates will be accepted until March 30, and none of the candidates can begin campaigning until March 27. Elections will be held on April 5 and April 6.
Colbert said there was an “extremely low” turnout at the election information sessions the week before spring break. He said this could be because the sessions weren’t announced until that week.
The students running for Senate seats are Vivian Padilla for the Walter Cronkite School, Erika Vera for University College, Zach Lindsay for the College of Nursing & Health Innovation and Ashley Ryder for Barrett, the Honors College.
Padilla currently serves as a freshmen senator while Vera currently serves as a senator for University College.
