Revisions to the ASASUD election code took up more than half of the Senate meeting Friday.
The debate covered changes to the ASASUD election code, relating to campaigning through printed material, appropriate campaign use of social media and the role of the Election Committee.
Much of the discussion focused on the specific wording of the various sections of the election code to ensure no candidates would misunderstand the code. In the end, several of the articles were altered.
“Great work. You guys … did a really great job,” said Vice President Jessica Abercrombie to the Senate after the debate concluded and the election code passed.
Two more student organizations received funds at Friday’s meeting as well. Woman as Hero received $620 for a summit on March 4 themed “Unlocking Your Untapped Potential,” and Habitat for Humanity acquired $1,269 for renting Zipcars to be used as transportation to volunteer projects.
With those funds now distributed, there is approximately $20,000 remaining in ASASUD’s budget for the rest of the semester, according to President Christian Vasquez.
The open Senate seats were also briefly addressed during the meeting.
There are currently six Senate seats open — one from the Cronkite School, one from Barrett, the Honors College, one from the College of Public Programs, one from University College and two from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
The priority deadline to apply for the positions was on Feb. 10, but ASASUD will accept applications throughout the semester.
Vasquez announced that he “hoped to have new senators appointed by next meeting.”
Vasquez also mentioned that there is a possibility the ASU U-Pass will cost more next year because ASU cannot fund U-Pass use at its current price.
There are also several meetings coming up where students can ask questions and learn about what ASU and the state are doing in regards to higher education.
On March 8, the Arizona Board of Regents will have a “special meeting” at the Memorial Union in Tempe, and on March 10 ASU President Michael Crow will hold a student forum at West campus.
