ASU’s Walter Cronkite School is one of 17 American universities that host the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, a 10-month academic non-degree study for professionals around the world. The Cronkite School is one of two universities with programs that focus on journalism.
In partnership with the U.S. State Department and the Institute of International Education, the ASU initiative of the Humphrey Fellowship program began in 2010 and brings together well-versed and experienced professionals who demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to public service by immersing them into the downtown Phoenix environment.
During their stay at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus, Humphrey Fellows engage in academic study, professional affiliations, networking opportunities, mentoring from Cronkite faculty and culturally rich travel opportunities.
The ASU initiative of the Humphrey Fellowship program is run by two-time Fulbright Scholar Professor B. William Silcock and Program Manager Kristi Kappes. Their three main goals include fostering personal and professional growth, preparing Fellows to take up meaningful leadership roles in their home nations and providing opportunities for a rich exchange of information among Fellows, faculty, students, professionals and Arizonans.
This year’s Humphrey Fellows include nine journalism professionals from nine different countries: Vitalien Adoukonou of Benin, Joseph Mayombo of Gabon, Darko Ivanovic of Montenegro, Namgay Zam of Bhutan, Rajneesh Bhandari of Nepal, Criselda Caringal of the Philippines, Marta Cerava of Latvia, Natalia Ghilascu of Moldova and Alla Nadezhikina of Russia.
