Michael Lanier's plant shop The Bosque is an oasis in the Phoenix desert. The greenery found in the shop isn't native to the region -- but if they're brought inside part of the year, Lanier says they can thrive in the city's urban apartments.
Yovani Flores is an artist that uses her talent to create safe spaces and advocate for the women's rights, especially women of color and queer women. She created the organization Mujeres del Sol to help accomplish her mission.
Phoenix coworking space CO+HOOTS is going international. The business's nonprofit arm, the CO+HOOTS Foundation, has started the CO+EXCHANGES program to share the talent in Phoenix with nonprofits around the world.
Phoenix Councilman Michael Nowakowski, who represents District 7, was awarded with the Ohtli Award in mid-September. The accolade recognizes leaders outside of Mexico who do exemplary work for Mexican communities in their area.
