HoodRide bicycles engages the community through a non-traditional bike repair and retail shop that operates out of re-purposed shipping containers in a downtown Phoenix backyard.
This year the Heard Museum Guild held its 55th annual Indian Fair and Market that featured over 700 Native American artists. The festival provided a diverse range of art from basket weaving to mask-making, and offered a variety of American Indian culture through different performances and traditional activities.
An upcoming festival in downtown Phoenix plans to bring greater attention, and some profit, to local bands and businesses. South By South Roosevelt, abbreviated SXSR, will hold its second music festival along Roosevelt Street the weekend of March 1-3. Local businesses along the stretch from 10th Street to Third Avenue will provide the venues for the festival.
The Bergamot Institute is a nonprofit organization, and its new art program provides people of all ages with the space and art supplies needed to create artwork. The organization receives most of the supplies for the sessions as donations from The Art Resource Center located in Tempe, as well as from local artists.
Changing Hands Bookstore will hold its second Indie Author Publishing Conference & Pitchapalooza! at Burton Barr Library on Feb. 9, focusing on the publishing process to benefit both new and veteran authors.
Shine Coffee has added its brick-and-mortar location on the corner of Central Avenue and Vernon Street. The coffee shop will sell original recipes for coffee, pastries and seasonal beverages.
