Since I was a young child, coming downtown for Diamondbacks’ and Suns’ games, concerts and festivals, I’ve been fortunate to watch the downtown Phoenix community grow over the past 20 years. And since moving downtown two years ago, I’ve been blessed to live among and interact directly with such a tightly bonded urban community.
Downtown has come a long way, but there is still so much left to be done. Downtown Phoenix is a unique neighborhood that needs the ASU student community to flourish. It needs our student organizations to collaborate with. It needs our students to support their shops and eateries. It needs the life and energy that we as students bring.
That’s why I’m full-heartedly supporting the write-in candidacy of Andres Cano and Brittany Morris for this year’s ASASUD election.
There couldn’t be a more crucial time and need in Downtown’s student government for strong-minded, caring and kind leaders. They are in this race for purely genuine, no-strings-attached-to-anyone reasons. They want to help out this campus and create a stronger bond with the neighborhood we live in. ASU students need their student government to work with local organizations and the City of Phoenix in downtown developments, concepts and events.
Andres and Brittany are two of the most well-intentioned individuals I’ve met, and I couldn’t be more excited to help support them next year as they work to reshape the way the downtown student government functions. They have the vision and experience needed to transform this campus. They oppose expensive academic fees that ultimately raise the cost of attendance at ASU. They will increase ASASUD’s involvement with the more than 60 student organizations downtown. And they’re committed to looking at more dining options for downtown students.
They know our students need a reason to live, eat, socialize and learn downtown.
But most importantly, they want to rebuild your trust in ASASUD. And I know they will.
I couldn’t be more thankful to have Andres and Brittany as friends. They are two special people I am truly thankful to have in my life. And now, I hope we give them the chance to truly take their love of this campus a step further. It would only be fitting. Please write-in Andres and Brittany.
