Instead of the Southern-style chicken Welcome Diner is known for, the new spot’s chicken will be Korean-inspired.

Bonjour Vietnam, a restaurant focused on French-Vietnamese cuisine located underneath the Hotel San Carlos, closed its doors after failing to pay its rent, according to a sign on the building. However, the restaurant may soon return under new management and other major changes.

The crackling sausage and steaming biscuits on the Welcome Diner griddle are not an atypical vision. The nine-seat bar and miniature kitchen are full of chatter and southern comfort food, and when the food halts the conversation, soul music pipes in to fill the lull. The only difference between this scene and any other meal at Welcome Diner is that it took place at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, and it’s the first brunch of the season.

Last week, I wrote about the juicing phenomenon and how it has swept through the Valley with a startling pace. Well, folks, it’s only expanding more, and in our very own downtown Phoenix! I’d like to focus on a new place that’s opened for your juice, smoothie and health-food needs: Grabbagreen.
