ASU President Michael Crow's New American University model will take center stage this year for the USGD Executive Board as it plans to push new initiatives to unite the university, said Downtown President Joseph Grossman.

USGD appointed four new members on Friday, including sophomore Travis Moore, who ran for vice president of services on Erika Green’s ticket against Joseph Grossman’s campaign in the spring election.

Kicking off another school year, Sparky's Carnival drew hundreds of students from the Downtown campus to Civic Space Park and the A.E. England Building. The event featured carnival games, free prizes and free food for students who checked in with their Sun Cards.

ASU officially broke ground on its new student recreation center at the Downtown campus, a $25 million facility expected to be completed in about a year.

ASU is now offering valet services at its Downtown and Tempe campuses, mostly for members of the community attending events on campus.

Laundry services on ASU's four campuses are free in residence halls like Taylor Place on the Downtown campus. Last year, the service cost some students more than $100.
