Dim lighting, coffins in plain sight, spooky background music: it didn’t take long for audience members of Lisa Starry’s A Vampire Tale to sense a dark twist looming in their future. Although most of the show was choreographed, this year’s rendition of A Vampire Tale left room for audience participation.

Nearly 50 people were arrested this weekend during the first two days of the Occupy Phoenix protest in Margaret T. Hance Park and Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Phoenix.

The Occupy Phoenix protest continued into Sunday when imprisoned demonstrators were released and more arrests were made.

After marching from Cesar Chavez Plaza to Margaret T. Hance Park, a group of Occupy Phoenix protesters were arrested after refusing to leave the park after closing hours.

Traffic was closed to the public on Adams Street in downtown Phoenix Friday as some 2,500 people celebrated the city’s culture during the Downtown Phoenix Street Party, a free event hosted by the Downtown Phoenix Partnership.

Hundreds of downtown Phoenix residents and employees gathered on Friday at the Arizona Center for Empty Bowls, an event that takes place only once a year at the Arizona Center and is set up by the non-profit Waste Not and several other sponsors.

Maker Faire, a fair that celebrates different forms of science, art and engineering from individuals of all ages, came to downtown Phoenix on Saturday, showcasing do-it-yourself projects from a variety of vendors.

The Occupy Phoenix protest took place Saturday at Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Phoenix before moving to nearby Margaret T. Hance Park in the late afternoon. The protest culminated with the arrests of about 40 protesters who refused to leave Hance Park after it closed.

Downtown’s newest music venue, Crescent Ballroom, is becoming a hot spot for local music lovers.
