When Chloe’s Corner opened in CityScape in January, owner Ashly Young wasn’t worried that the issues with a previous tenant in the location would harm her restaurant.
Oakville Grocery Co., the previous tenant, was evicted in October 2011 by CityScape’s developer, RED Development LLC, after financial problems.
“We are not as busy as we plan on being,” Young said.
The restaurant is currently most popular during the lunch hour, according to the owner. Many customers are employees at local businesses who come on their break or students from the Phoenix School of Law.
Margaret Hamill, a case manager at United Health, enjoyed Chloe’s “excellent service and quick but easygoing atmosphere.”
The speed at which Chloe’s serves its customers makes it a unique restaurant in the downtown lunch scene, Young said.
“You can be in and out the door in a half hour,” she said, referring to their grab-and-go section.
Annette Vargas, also a case manager at United Health, said she found the restaurant by accident while walking around a few weeks ago. After her first meal at Chloe’s, she started bringing her friends back for lunch. She likes that a variety of portion sizes are available and the very reasonable prices.
Shelley Rosas, a student at the Phoenix School of Law, liked that the restaurant had a variety of healthy options.
“The chop salad is a bit different than the average salad, and pretty good on price,” she said.
Young also owns the other Chloe’s Corner location at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. The restaurant has been open in Scottsdale for about eight years. Young bought the original Chloe’s Corner from Fox Restaurant Concepts.
Plans are currently in the works to draw in new customers and establish a consistent customer base, she said.
