A new bakery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner opens its doors on Monday in the Arizona Center, just blocks away from the Downtown campus.
Corner Bakery Cafe, a chain restaurant owned by the WKS Restaurant Corporation which also owns Denny’s and El Pollo Loco, is opening across from the AMC Theater.
The cafe will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and hopes to cater to the professionals working downtown as well as students.
The eatery will not accept Maroon & Gold dollars, however; they were not approached by ASU about the option, said Director of Operations Abe Imani.
From the outside, Corner Bakery looks very much like a small cafe with a striped awning and small tables under shade umbrellas. Once inside the eatery, however, its red booths give the feel of a sit-down restaurant.
It runs like a standard coffee shop. All orders are taken at the counter as you walk in the door and then the food is brought out to the table.
The Bakery serves a variety of egg scrambles, salads, cold or grilled sandwiches, soups and pastas with a few vegetarian dishes, such as the Farmer’s Scramble and Pasta Caprese Salad.
Prices range from about $4 to $8 for an entree, not including a drink or dessert from the bakery counter.
Imani said the bakery has a catering service with affordable breakfast baskets, sandwich platters and lunch boxes “for meetings or events on the go.”
Corner Bakery Cafe plans on being a long-term addition to the Arizona Center community, which has seen changes recently with the closure of three tenants.
“We’ll be here a minimum of 20 years,” Imani said.
