Water in at least eight rooms at Taylor Place flowed out discolored Monday night.

Isaac Easley, the community assistant on duty, said he first heard about the discolored water around 7:30 p.m., but did not know why the water was coming out that way.

“I don’t know anything for sure,” Easley said. “Nobody’s telling me anything.”

Journalism freshman Ashton Graham, the resident who reported the discolored water, said she first noticed the abnormality when one of her floor mates brought it to her attention.

“It just came out like a muddy color,” Graham said. “It wasn’t thick or anything, but it was definitely a weird color.”

Tom Kirk, maintenance supervisor for Taylor Place, was on-site after the initial report, but said he could not comment.

Graham said her water cleared up an hour later, but will avoid using it the rest of the night.

“I’m kind of scared, but I mean, I don’t know who to call,” Graham said. “That’s the only number I have, and if he doesn’t know what’s going on then I don’t really know who to contact about it.”

Other water-related abnormalities reported by Taylor Place residents included showers not working, warm water not working and faucets sputtering.

Journalism freshman Sam Tongue said his shower was not working at around 5:30 p.m.

“People were running up and down the halls to see if the showers were working,” Tongue said.

Tongue said that when he turned on his shower it drained a little, but that was it.

Haley Shore, the third floor community assistant, had several students come to her reporting that their showers were not turning on. Shore said showers were not working at around 6 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m.

“There was a leak somewhere and they had to shut off the water,” Shore said.
