Downtown Digest: Creative parties and Fourth of July festivities

Hey guys, it’s Sara Edwards again filling in as guest digest writer to bring you some more awesome events going on this week. This week we have events that’ll bring out your creative side and celebrations for the Fourth of July that go beyond fireworks and barbeque.

Roast of America

Tuesday July 3

7 p.m.

Crescent Ballroom

On the night before we celebrate our country that is the United States of America, what better way to celebrate than a Roast of America to help us remember all the things that make America Hate Again! Through a night of real talk and most likely heated conversations, Roast Master Anwar Newton will help you lighten up and laugh with a strong cast of other fellow roasters.  Tickets for the 21 plus show are available for $10 in advance, $15 day of show.

Fabulous Phoenix Fourth

Ditch the backyard barbeque and tacky decorations for the Fabulous Phoenix Fourth festival this Wednesday. This festival is fun for all ages with something for everyone like a classic car show, arts and crafts and inflatables and small rides for the kids. There will also be two stages of musical acts and entertainment throughout the night.The event is free.

During a week of celebrations, let’s switch things up a bit and go back in time to one of Frida Kahlo’s wild fiestas! Join other Frida fans to celebrate the artists birthday through art, food and music. Come dressed in your Frida y Diego attire and enjoy live entertainment, local art painting and a kids zone where your little one can paint a Frida inspired self-portrait. With a VIP ticket, you can also enjoy a special Tango performance inspired by the movie and access to a private Frida inspired garden. For more info about tickets and admission, click here.

  1. Those with adorable furry friends understand the struggle of your camera roll filling up with pictures of your dog or cat doing something cute. Instead of whipping out your phone’s camera and adding another hundred photos, why not paint a picture of your adorable baby. This Saturday, the Painters Lounge is holding a Paint Your Pet class with expert artists to help you create an adorable painting of your lovely pet. The class is $49 and more information can be found here

Looking for a way to spruce up your dining table or brighten up that credenza in your living room? Plant Nite Phoenix is hosting a succulent planting night to show you how to create stunning and unique succulent arrangements. All the planting supplies are included in this event as well as expert instruction from garden design instructors to help you turn a plain glass bowl into an enlightening decoration for your home.
