Hey guys, Sara Edwards filling in for TJ again this week. It is officially time to get spooky. This week we will get all the tea and dirt (literally) about Victorian Age living, where to go when you get that sudden feeling to get down and swing on Tuesdays and how to fill your classic literature craving while still engaging in the spooky season.

Downtown Phoenix Oktoberfest
Saturday, October 6
4 p.m.
1 E Washington St.

Now that all the holidays are rolling out, what better way to start that winter diet than wiping that dust off your lederhosen and scarfing down all the pretzels and schnitzels at this weekends Oktoberfest! There will be a contest for best-dressed beer maid costume and a Bavarian dance floor with live polka music! This event is a 21+ event so get your tickets here and leave room for those brats you’ve been waiting all year long for!

Victorian Secrets: The Unmentionable Tour
Friday, October 5
5 p.m.
113 N 6th St.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved history and learning about the different ways people lived in the 1800s. But when it comes to the Victorian Age, I want to hear the real dirt about how they lived and learn all the things they don’t put in the textbooks. This Unmentionable Tour event is going to answer all the real questions we have about the Victorian Age like why were their knickers crotchless and how the hell did they keep their house clean when dust is constantly blowing in through the windows? If you’re as curious as I am, buy your tickets here.

10th Annual PoeFest
Friday, October 5
8 p.m.
San Carlos
202 N Central Ave

I have heard my fair share of people read ‘The Raven’ to me in October. This annual PoeFest adds a twist to our favorite depressed writers’ works. Side-by-side actors will perform as inmates of Poe’s fictional Maison de Santé Asylum. Also, it’s their 10th anniversary! If you want to celebrate Poe in a different way that doesn’t involve the Simpson’s rendition of ‘The Raven’, then grab your Poe obsessed friends and your tickets here.

South Central Swing- Speakeasy, Swing Hard

Tuesday, October 2
7-11 p.m.
South Central Swing at the Duce
525 S Central Ave

Who says we have to leave our dancing nights to Saturday’s only? Why can’t we drop everything and go swing dancing on a Tuesday night? Oh wait, we can! Every Tuesday night, South Central Swing at the Duce will be having a swing dance night for everyone! Set to take place in a prohibition-era setting, get those toes tapping after enjoying some vintage style drinks at the bar. You can be like me and show up not knowing how to swing dance! Click here for more information.

Harvest Festival Costume Drive

October 2-25
11 a.m.
Harmon Library
1325 S 5th Ave

If anything, I know some of y’all have those Halloween costumes that you loved and bought one day, and then Halloween comes around and you’re stuck wishing you bought a different one. If you have tons of new or gently used costumes, drop them by the Harmon Library and donate them so someone else can get spooky this Halloween. Children and teen costumes will primarily be accepted, so now you have the perfect excuse to donate that one witch costume from 5th grade that everyone else seemed to have too.
