Historic Preservation Commission

  • Monday, Sept. 18
  • 4:30 p.m.
  • City Hall, 200 W. Washington St.

This will be the first meeting held with the commission’s new members (Helena Ruter, Greta Rayle and Bruce Cutting). They will be looking at new avenues for funding for historic preservation as bond funds from 2006 have dried out. The commission will also vote on whether to extend the protection of a 30-day hold on demolition of duplex and single-family homes.

The Switch Comedy

Free stand-up comedy hosted by Pauly Casillas at Crescent Ballroom. The Switch Comedy promises a night of laughs from Arizona’s finest comedians and is open to attendees 21 and older.

Chain Letter Vol. 1: An Evening of Performance Art

This performance art project grants singers, dancers, comedians, poets and storytellers 10 minutes of fame on stage each. Inspired by the “Chain Letter” series in Seattle, the event gives featured performers the ability to choose who will star at the next show. This show’s lineup includes local storytellers Dan Hoen Hull and Linda Paloma Soto, poet Shawnte Orion, comedian Nate Romero, Marnee Burrus and Sarah Terrabley. Tickets are $7 at the door.

Drinks 4 DACA at Valley Bar

Proceeds raised at this live event, presented by Aliento and Trans Queer Pueblo, will go toward paying Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program renewal fees for immigrants who came to the U.S. at a young age without documentation. Attendees can enjoy drinks, DJs and drag performances. The venue is 21+.

Jared & The Mill, KOLARS, Luxxe, Bear Ghost

Tempe-based indie rock band Jared & The Mill will play at The Van Buren, downtown Phoenix’s newest venue, with KOLARS, which describes its style as “Desert Disco” — among other things. They’ll be joined by Arizona locals Luxxe and Bear Ghost. Tickets for this all-ages event range from $17 to $35. They can be purchased online here.
