Take a break from the nearby Pizza Hut or Domino’s and pay a little extra for what pizza is actually supposed to taste like.

Cibo, an Italian eatery and wine bar, is one of the best places to go in downtown Phoenix for a late-night pizza or salad.

Set in a restored early 1900s bungalow on the northeast corner of West Fillmore Street and North Fifth Avenue, Cibo provides a relaxing ambiance and serves food made from high-quality ingredients.

Whether guests are sitting in the refurbished home, which is adorned with a variety of art, or outside on the low-lit patio, the atmosphere easily adds to the laid-back tone of the restaurant.

Cibo prides itself on using both locally grown and Italian imported ingredients, and the extra effort to create a fresh, organic meal is not in vain.

There are about 20 different options for pizza, with toppings such as spicy salami, Gorgonzola, pecorino and mozzarella cheeses, prosciutto and smoked salmon.

The freshness of the ingredients combined with the rustic taste of the crust from the wood-fired brick oven makes the pizza one of Cibo’s best features, but it is certainly not the only dining option.

Cibo also offers several salads that showcase the locally grown organic fruits and vegetables, especially the Omero Salad. This salad consists of spinach and mixed greens, onions, ripe strawberries, caramelized walnuts and goat cheese. The grouping of flavors is unique and incredibly refreshing, making it even more of a highlight than the pizza.

To experience a little bit of everything that Cibo has to offer, it’s easy to order both a pizza and a salad and split both among two people for about $15 each. If there’s room for desert, a Nutella crepe is never a bad way to end the night.
