It’s lunchtime and you have a sudden craving for some sushi. Unfortunately, there are only 30 minutes left of your lunch break before resuming your busy schedule. What to do? My advice would be to make a quick trip to Enjoy Sushi, a small sushi bar located in Renaissance Square right next to the Washington and Central light rail stop.
Enjoy Sushi is different from other “fast food” sushi places because of the quality. Every dish is made to order with fresh ingredients, something that is important for sushi dishes. From my first bite, I immediately noticed the freshness of the crab meat in the California salad roll. There was no trace of expired or sour ingredients.
Along with the California salad roll, I also tried the restaurant’s specialty, the crunchy tuna roll. The ingredients of the crunchy tuna roll included crab meat, avocado, cucumber, tuna, spicy sauce, eel sauce and mayonnaise. They made up a combination of interesting savory flavors along with a crunchy topping. I can tell why this unique dish is in high demand from customers.
For people who do not particularly like sushi, there are other menu options as well. Besides delicious sushi rolls, Enjoy Sushi has a variety of other menu items such as Japanese-style salads and rice bowls. For vegetable lovers, a good order would be the Poke Salad made with seaweed salad, avocado, cucumber and masako. If warm food is what you’re thinking about ordering, all rice bowls are $5 and there is a handful of options to choose from, like the chicken or beef teriyaki bowl.
The taste is good and the quality is okay but the price point is pretty fantastic. Everything on Enjoy Sushi’s menu is $7.99 or less. With the price for special roll plates at $7.99 each and one simple roll plate at only $5 each, a sushi meal for two can cost less than $20.00. That is almost half the price of many reasonably priced sushi bars.
Although it’s a great place, Enjoy Sushi has short business hours, operating only on Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This makes Enjoy Sushi primarily a lunch stop for people between work or classes during the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. lunch rush. Another downside besides the short business hours of Enjoy Sushi is that they are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. Because of the proximity to ASU’s Downtown campus, shopping centers and entertainment venues, the restaurant could benefit from extending their hours of operation. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are no discounts for students.
Enjoy Sushi is great for the lunchtime sushi craving. Bring a friend and enjoy a meal chatting in the comfortable booths or get it quick to go. Don’t come to Enjoy Sushi for the highest quality, but if you’re looking for fast, inexpensive and decent eats, this is the place.
