For the staff at Downtown Devil, downtown Phoenix has worked as a canvas. It’s a place where our aspirations can take any form they’d like through hard work creating content we’re proud to present to the public. Now five years strong, Downtown Devil, thanks to readers and leaders like you, has seen the uniqueness of the city, its nooks and crannies, and the people who breathe life into it. We couldn’t be more excited to be back for full-time publishing.
The site this year will be under new leadership in the top three positions: former Director of Multimedia Jayson Chesler as Executive Editor, former Arts and Entertainment Editor Miguel Otárola as Editor-in-Chief and former Education Editor Danika Worthington as News Editor.
Downtown Devil’s managing board, which handles major decisions along with the top three editors, also has new members. Travis Arbon, Molly Bilker and Brandon Kutzler will be joining existing members Annika Cline, Kimberly Koerth and Domenico Nicosia on the board.
All the aforementioned people have been part of Downtown Devil for multiple years. Journalism and leadership runs in their blood, as well as their knack for making good decisions. Check our masthead for updated staff positions throughout the year.
The Downtown Devil website will begin to look a bit different as the year progresses. One of our main changes will be the integration of our Downtown Devil blogs into the actual site, now working as columns. We hope this can give our blogs, such as Light Rail Confidential and focus.flash.phoenix., more exposure to our readers.
Downtown Devil has some large-scale packages lined up for this school year, as well. We’ll continue with our longform Street Series explorations that began this summer with South of Roosevelt. We also plan to spike up our political coverage, especially with the city of Phoenix elections happening next year. The rest of the projects are still under wraps, but we’ll be ecstatic when they come to fruition and can’t wait to share them with you, too.
Downtown Devil is an organization set with satisfying the needs of a multitude of different groups. Whether you’re part of ASU’s Downtown campus, live in one of the many downtown neighborhoods, work for a small business, represent city government or do a whole mix of these things, we hope to be a great resource for you.
It’s important for you to let us know how we’re doing. Whether you see one of us on the street while reporting or reach us through our email (news@downtowndevil.com), we will be listening to what you have to say. This is the best way for us to know how to serve the city.
While we are an organization focused deeply on bringing a variety of stories about our community to you, it’s also important to know who we are on an individual level. We are journalists, students, leaders in training and downtown Phoenix advocates yearning to explore. We are deeply invested in journalism, and work for Downtown Devil for the love of writing things that matter.
Thank you for your support.
