Every Saturday morning, crowds form together at the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market. Anyone from locals, tourists, students, and families support local businesses by buying coffee, food, jewelry, local produce and more.
The farmers market has been an essential part of downtown Phoenix for years, but for Herb Bliss 1111, also known as Food for the Gods, this is a new venue.
“We sell wellness, we sell medicinals, herbs, food, we also are raw chefs,” said Mr. Ankhra, co-owner of Food for the Gods. “We educate people on nutrition.”
Mr. and Mrs. Ankhra, the owners, are originally from Upstate New York, however they said that a person recommended they come to Phoenix, even though they were unaware of the market.
“The vibes here are very positive, and it’s different from where we come from,” he said.
There are a number of new booths every year, but for Kathy Markiewicz this is her sixth year selling Grammy K’s Handcrafted Soaps at the market.
“I use locally purchased ingredients, I create all of the soap in my home, I cure it one month to two months,” she said.
It was recently announced that the farmers market will be moving from 720 N 5th Street to the Arizona Center in January.
“I think it’s a nice setting and it’s very walkable. I know we all won’t need canopies because there is shade, which will help us when it’s warmer,” she said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
There are many farmers markets throughout the valley, but this one sticks out specifically for her.
“I love this market, it’s very diverse, very community focused,” she said. “The downtown market is awesome, you can’t get this anywhere else.”
