The Alwun House

And you thought your sepia filter on Instagram was art. Artists Carolyn Sechler and Luis Salazar took their smart phone cameras to the next level, creating abstract and imaginative pictures just by using their iPhones and the sea of photo-altering applications. The iPhonography exhibit will also host live entertainment by Lie to the Boys and Terminal One.

Cost: Free
Location: Roosevelt and 12th streets

Downtown [CREATIV]

A compilation of artists from all over the spectrum. This TallCat event will host live graffiti and art paintings, hip hop performances by “Cut Throat Logic” and a spoken word performance by Rok Knowledge. Cash prizes of $100 will go to the winner of a breakdance competition led by the Furious Styles Crew and people who sign up for the company’s website. The event will also have a painting giveaway. Quite possibly more art for one lot to handle.

Society, groups and individuals melding and relating in unique ways is the theme in Arizona local artist Lee Berger’s new work. Berger, mainly self-taught, will feature examples of his “Grey Matters” series and several canvases in his new collection. His high contrast collection will explore these impersonal relationships through juxtaposition and raw colors. The closing reception will serve coffee and tea from Quiet Mind Tea & No Frills Coffee.

monOrchid Gallery

You may never touch the moon, but you have seen it. Not like this. The Lunar Landscapes exhibit will feature images of the great pie in the sky from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera. Panoramic shots, side-by-side comparisons and never before seen shots will be in the mix. ASU professor Mark Robinson, principal investigator of the orbiter’s imaging system, will work with the gallery to bring new images every day of November. The orbiter, launched in June 2009, still roams the surface and gathers information 3 years later.

Cost: Free
Location: Roosevelt and Third streets

5th Row Dance Studios
