Nature has always fascinated me. Our surroundings are beautiful. When I decided to try black-and-white photos, I thought trying to express an emotion through nature would be an interesting idea.

I haven’t been to a park since middle school. I have a vivid memory of going to the Scottsdale Civic Center and enjoying the sights and sounds around me. I’ve heard good things about the Margaret T. Hance Park, so I went to explore.

As soon as I arrived, I noticed the trees. I liked the way they stood tall and alone but seemed intertwined at their tops. I also liked their bareness because it allowed more light to come through and create interesting shadows on the grass.

I enjoyed exploring the rest of the park, but these trees were my favorite. The way they created a natural sense of unity resonated with me and reminded me of the many ways multiple parts of nature consistently work together.

I chose black and white for the depth. To take this photo I set my aperture to f/4.5 to keep the trees focused and my shutter speed to 1/250 to control the amount of light.
