Focus. Flash. Phoenix: Fall came late

My favorite season is autumn, when the leaves change color and the weather is just perfect — a wonderful mix where it is cooler than the summertime but warm enough to not need a sweater. When I heard the latest photo blog post was about the autumn trees, I knew that it was something I had to shoot. I was asked to try and use negative space. I thought that such a challenge would help me improve as a photographer and give me a new background photo to post on Instagram — a win-win situation.

Oh, how I underestimated this assignment.

Not only did it challenge me into thinking about less obvious ways of shooting a photo, but it also allowed me to hone my photography skills, as I had to tweak the shutter speed to a lower level than usual to get the lighting just the way I wanted.

I appreciated the challenge because I now feel I can take more than just news photos or pictures for profiles. I have learned to be more artistic, which can benefit both my photography and my Instagram pictures.
