While contemplating ideas for this photo, I felt stuck and uninspired. I was, after all, sitting in my cramped dorm room. So, I decided that I would most likely become more inspired if I were to grab a couple of friends and take a walk through the city.
During this walk I was surrounded by the tall buildings of downtown, and I got to thinking about how small and grounded these buildings make me feel sometimes — but not necessarily in a negative way. I wanted to follow the theme of perspective in hopes of reflecting how I felt.
We were on a parking garage rooftop and I was still thinking about how to approach a “perspective” theme. I had Delia go back down to the street while I stayed seven stories above her. She looked so small on the street corner -— in fact, everything looked kind of small from up there. Busy people wearing coats and ties walked by quickly. Cars, buses and taxis passed, all on their way to something important in their individual lives. But she stayed there, carelessly twirling all the while. This small moment was a good reminder to change my perspective every now and again.
To capture this photo I set the aperture to f/6.3, to allow for a slightly shallow depth of field, and I set the shutter speed at 1/80 of a second.
