Hsin Cafe closed its doors Wednesday after a nine-year run as a staple of the downtown Phoenix Arizona State University campus.
The cafe, which was conveniently located just outside the Taylor Place dining hall, first opened in March 2010 and had since been serving homestyle Chinese dishes to downtown Phoenix residents, workers and students.
Hsin Cafe was owned and operated by the Juang family, who announced the restaurant’s closing in a tweet Sunday night.
“To our dearest customers, thank you for being a part of our community and sharing in our love for quality Chinese food, as well as supporting our small family business. You all have been a part of Hsin Cafe’s success, and we will miss seeing you,” said the tweet from the restaurant’s twitter account.

Hsin Cafe was a favorite for many ASU students and alum, who are sad to see the restaurant close.
Jake Garcia, a 2017 Cronkite alum said Hsin Cafe was a big part of his college career because it was the closest restaurant to Cronkite that he knew he would enjoy.
“I’m so bummed about it,” Garcia said. “I just feel really bad for future Arizona State students who aren’t going to be able to get the experience of the hidden gem of downtown Phoenix like I did.”
My heart is broken and I‘ll never be the same.
To all the Hsinners out there, we had a great run. https://t.co/3G9oQDUkw3

Garcia said that about 85 percent of the time he would order orange chicken and fried rice because he has simple tastes that paired nicely with Hsin’s food.
Some students, like ASU freshman Rebecca Wondimu, have bittersweet thoughts about the restaurants closing.
She said that while she isn’t happy about Hsin closing its doors, she hopes the location turns into something more familiar to the students.
