Huss Brewing Co. is expanding to downtown Phoenix in the coming spring.
The family-owned and locally-operated business plans to showcase Huss family brewed beer in a new way at the Phoenix Convention Center.
The new spot will feature 20 tap handles of Huss brewed beer, a handful of signature cocktails, and a non-traditional brewery menu. The restaurant will also have a to-go counter catering to guests on the run.
“We actually have two concepts in one. We have the restaurant and the bar on one side,” said the general manager of the new location, Heather Ferreira. “On the other side of the entrance, we have a dedicated to-go area and our kitchen.”
This will be the third Huss location in Arizona. The first brewery, the Tempe Taproom, opened in 2013 and is home to 24 tap handles of Huss-brewed beers and other favorites. Its flagship location, the second Huss establishment, is in the heart of uptown Phoenix. A variety of its freshly crafted local beers, as well as small bites, are offered.
“We’re just going to be the neighborhood hangout. We’ve got amazing food and we’ve got the Huss beers. To come in and taste our beers is going to be super fun,” Ferreira said.
The city of Phoenix decided to put a restaurant in the convention center and reached out to the restaurant and hospitality community to find the right tenet. The brewery put in a bid and was selected.
“We are working in conjunction with the city of Phoenix and the convention center, it’s a super fun partnership that we have. We’re super excited about it and we feel very grateful that we were chosen,” Ferreira said.
Downtown Phoenix has become home to 10 new breweries and bars in the last year. The area experienced a lull during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, many new places have opened, increasing business traffic.
“Nightlife has definitely expanded — we are seeing more people come to the area to discover new, fun places to enjoy themselves and often they fall in love with downtown and even think about living or working in the area,” Sara Scoville-Weaver, the business development director at Downtown Phoenix Inc., said.
Downtown Phoenix’s culture is reflective of the creative community it is home to. The area boasts cultural attractions that enhance its uniqueness.
“The area is a huge magnet for local [food and beverage] operators with over 80% of all restaurants and bars downtown being locally owned and operated. We are very proud to be an authentic ‘Phoenician’ area to live, work, learn and play with few chains and very unique concepts,” Weaver said.
Founded in Arizona by couple Jeff and Leah Huss, Huss Brewing Co. is among these locally owned and operated businesses. Rooted in love, Huss will bring an added sense of community and pride to the downtown area.
“Our beer is truly made of love. We welcome people into all of our taprooms and our restaurants and the brewery, as if they are family,” Ferreira said.
The brewery does not yet have a specific opening date scheduled but is hoping to welcome guests to the new location sometime next month.
