
From fresh-made bagels and pizza to steaming bowls of ramen, downtown Phoenix has been abuzz with new restaurants popping up during the pandemic. If you’re looking for a change of pace from DoorDash and happen to find yourself in the downtown area, here are five restaurants that will catch your eye, and your tastebuds.
Tap That Downtown was born from the “love of beer,” as they say on their website. This self-pour beer bar hosts 35 different craft brews along with wine and champagne. Tap That ensures that diners come for the booze and stay for the food, with an impressive menu that covers all bar favorites like wings and nachos, along with lunch and breakfast specials. This restaurant is at 909 N. 5th St. and is open Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. for dine-in or take-out. Servers will be masked up, and diners are also required to wear masks while inside.
Il Bosco Pizza has opened up its second location within Roosevelt Row, the original remaining in Scottsdale. This wood-fired pizza joint’s menu varies from antipasti dishes and salads to their award-winning pizza. These pizzas range from their Adrianna vegetarian pizza with red sauce, mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil to their unique “DIY- Take Home Pizza Kit”. This kit comes with a 12-inch dough ball, sauce, cheese, pepperoni, two toppings of your choice, and cooking instructions. The new Il Bosco Pizza location can be found at 918 N. 5th Street. It’s open for dine-in, take-out, and online ordering. They are open Monday- Thursday 4:30 pm to 9 pm, Friday- Saturday 4:30 pm to 10 pm, and Sun 4:30 pm to 8 pm. Servers will wear masks and be given regular temperature checks. Diners are also expected to wear masks.
Lucky’s Indoor Outdoor is a neighborhood bar that has a 1970’s trailer bar, an indoor area with a vintage feel, and a large outdoor patio with picnic tables that houses rotating food trucks. Some of their rotating trucks have included Pizza Arno, The Wildfire Co., and MozzArepas. For a full schedule of food trucks, check out their website. Lucky’s Indoor Outdoor can be found at 817 N. 2nd Street and is open every day from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Servers are required to wear masks and are given regular temperature checks, and diners will be required to wear masks.
Stoop Kid boasts mouthwatering bagels, burgers, and coffee. They offer an AM menu that starts at 8 a.m. with items such as the “Egg Thee Scallion,” a bagel with Scallion and Parmesan cream cheese, a soft boiled egg, ham, Gruyere cheese, and mornay on an asiago bagel, and “Money Shot” bagel with spicy bacon jam cream cheese, marinated tomato, cheddar, soft scramble, and a hash cake on an asiago bagel. They also offer a PM menu at noon with burgers, fried plantains and chips. Stoop kid can be found at 901 N. 1st Street and is open for dine-in, take-out and online ordering Tuesday- Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Masks are required upon entering the building.
Ramen Kagawa is the new ramen shop on the block. This authentic eatery offers chicken, pork, vegetarian and specialty ramen. They also serve different styles of Japanese curry rice from beef to special katsu rice served with potatoes and carrots in every bowl. If you can, save room for their signature dessert, a green tea cheesecake. Ramen Kagawa can be found at 111 W. Monroe Street, Unit 130, and offers online ordering, dine-in, take-out and delivery through GrubHub. They’re open Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Masks are also required upon entering the building.
