Lux Coffee Bar has moved a few yards south from its original 4404 N. Central Ave. location, bringing a new name and concept along with it.

Now called Lux Central, the new “public house” concept opened Monday and occupies a previously vacant space that used to house a clothing shop.

Inside the unmarked building, the exposed brick walls and steel box windows are softened by rich woods, intimate lighting and complementary hues of chocolate brown and teal, lending a community and home-style feel.

Beyond change of space, Lux Central now serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring a menu of light comfort dishes. For instance, Tuesday’s opening special was gazpacho soup.

The new concept also offers a wine list, beer selection and hand-crafted cocktails at a separate bar perpendicular to the standard coffee-pastry counter, where owner Jeff Fischer can be found mixing drinks and conversation with customers.

“I’ll be here for the drinks,” said Phoenix resident Joe Menosky, enjoying a cocktail at the sleek steel bar. Menosky has been a returning Lux customer for “a couple of years.”

The hours have expanded to 6 a.m. to midnight every day, with a possibility of staying open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
