It is easy to tell what Made boutique is all about solely based on its name. Unique and earthy items fill the store; hidden treasures such as natural body care products and comical magnets can be found mixed in among the handmade pottery and cards.
Known mostly to shoppers as a local, independent boutique featuring handmade artisan wares, books and receptions, this spot is different from any boutique of the downtown area primarily because of its workshops. In these workshops, artists teach a class how to construct their product.
Artists like Lesly Zazzie contribute to this boutique that supports its neighborhood. Her bracelets and hair clips are created from scraps of fabric and adorned with buttons, fitting perfectly in the smart, clean-feeling store, which is conveniently located on Fifth and Roosevelt Streets.
Involvement in the downtown community is considered imperative at this boutique, which is why owner Cindy Dach makes sure that the store does more than just sell their merchandise on Roosevelt Row. The store participates in events such as The Roosevelt Row Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale and the Green Streets Festival, and it hosts the Downtown Phoenix Book Group.
The quaint shop offers 10 percent off purchases to ASU students, and was voted the Best Shopping on Roosevelt and the Best Magazine Rack in Phoenix by the New York Times in 2008. The one stop shop for a gift and a card, Made is constantly redefining what the shops on Roosevelt represent with its intimate workshops and handmade items.
