Moriah II Nail & Spa opened its doors Monday in the Arizona Center, offering a new relaxation venue for downtown Phoenix residents.

Moriah II is the second salon for owner Daniel Truong, who also owns Moriah Hair & Nails in Scottsdale. Along with the chance to expand his business, he is excited to continue doing a job he has been passionate about for the past 10 years.

“I enjoy and love what I do, and I will do the best that I can to be successful at it,” Truong said.

Moriah II Nail & Spa will offer a variety of amenities to customers, including manicures and pedicures, acrylic nails, full nail sets and nail fills, among others. The pricing at the new location is not yet set in stone, but Truong said the prices should be the same as those at his Scottsdale salon. There, customers can get a manicure for $13, a pedicure for $24 or both for $37. Acrylic nails are priced at $18 and nail fills at $31.

The Phoenix salon will offer 35 percent off all services through the end of September for its grand opening. It will also offer a discount for ASU students, but Truong said he hasn’t decided yet how much that discount will be.

Located next to Sam’s Cafe, Moriah II Nail & Spa will play a role in the downtown community as a small business, said Cindy Dach, director of the Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation.

“Small and local businesses are the gems that make a community unique. People will travel to a locally owned business.  They won’t travel a great distance to a chain store,” Dach said. ” If we want to bring people downtown, we need locally owned businesses where the owners are on site and engaging with their community.”

The decision to open a second salon in downtown Phoenix was simply a good business opportunity, Truong said.

“I didn’t see any nail salons, and it (downtown Phoenix) seemed like it needed it,” he said. “I thought I’d do OK. I hope that it’s going to do OK.”

ASU nursing freshman Sarah Haver said that the salon will be beneficial for those looking to break away from the stress of schoolwork, and social work freshman Brittany Garcia said she is excited to have a nail salon closer to the Downtown campus.

“If I ever have the urge to get my nails done, it will be nice to know that there is one in a convenient location,” Garcia said.

Proximity to the downtown Phoenix campus was a hallmark reason Truong came downtown.

“Thats why I chose this place: All the student life. … It’s worth a try,” he said.
