This summer, a variety of businesses opened downtown with other places making similar announcements for the near future. From cat cafes to giant potted plants lining the street, here’s a list of some of the new shops, installations and restaurants downtown, as well as openings we can expect in the next few months.
Antique Sugar vintage clothing store (801 N. 2nd St.) Open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday
Antique Sugar boasts a range of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. Located next to FilmBar, the store houses a wide selection of dresses, shoes, glasses and jewelry.
The Counter (50 N. Central Ave.) Open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday
This international chain allows customers to build their own burgers from an extensive list of ingredients including pretzel buns, sprouts, radishes and grilled corn — as well as more classic burger staples. Located at the Central and Washington light rail stop, this is The Counter‘s first Arizona restaurant.
Flowers Beer & Wine (501 E. Roosevelt St.) Open 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Friday
Craft beer and wine as well as home brewing supplies complement a selection of flowers at this shop. Flowers Beer & Wine is located on the corner of Fifth and Roosevelt Streets.
The Bosque plant shop (214 E. Roosevelt St. – Suite #4) Open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday – Friday and 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Saturday
MonOrchid had a busy summer with the opening of a new cafe and a plant shop. The Bosque offers a selection of indoor and tropical plants, as well as potting supplies and vintage Arizona goods.
Be: Coffee, Food + Stuff (220 E. Roosevelt St.) Open 6:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday
Be: Coffee, Food + Stuff serves locally-roasted coffee as well as tea and breakfast sandwiches, according to the cafe’s Facebook page. Open in the former-Songbird Coffee & Tea House, Be is the new cafe in MonOrchid’s coworking space. The Dressing Room, a restaurant located next to Be, will open soon.

New public art installations on Roosevelt Row (Across Roosevelt St.)
A series of shaded benches and a row of more than a dozen giant potted trees now line Roosevelt Row. The seating area is located on the median at Third and Roosevelt streets.
Hidden Track Bottle Shop (111 W. Monroe Ave.) Open 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Saturday
Hidden Track provides customers with a collection of wines from around the globe, and co-owners Craig Dziadowicz and Danielle Middlebrook have a combined 20 years of experience in the wine industry. The shop has a retro feel inspired by the music of the 60s — the era during which 111 W. Monroe Building was built.
New pocket park next to Taylor Place (517 N. 1st St.) Open always
The Space Between is a temporary pocket park located between Taylor Place and Valley Youth Theatre. The culmination of a year-and-a-half of work, the park offers shade-covered seating, a grassy area and a Little Free Library.

Cat Cafe to open in January (Location and hours to be determined)
Cat cafes — coffee and tea shops where customers can watch and play with cats — are popular in Asia, and gaining prominence in the U.S. Mews Cat Cafe will open downtown this January, and another similar cafe has plans to open in Scottsdale.
Sutra Yoga to open second location (First and Portland streets) Hours to be determined
Coming later this year, Sutra’s second location will turn a former cotton-sorting factory into a yoga studio. The company has notably started a series of outdoor yoga events across downtown and midtown, such as Sutra in the Park.
Short Leash Hot Dogs to open new location (Coming soon to 130 N. Central Ave.) Hours to be determined
The fourth brick-and-mortar shop in the Short Leash family will occupy Downtown Deli’s old location above Valley Bar in the coming months.
Pat and Waldo’s/Otakumen ramen shop (114 W. Adams St.) Hours to be determined
Two different restaurants — Pat and Waldo’s Italian food and Otakumen ramen shop — will open in the same space in the Orpheum Lofts this fall. The sister restaurants will each have to-go counters, and they will both be run by the same owner.
