
Oh My Ears will be kicking off its sixth annual four-day music festival in downtown Phoenix tonight. OME is an organization dedicated to helping emerging musicians and artists connect and share their music. The festival will include over 40 groups from Phoenix and beyond, showcasing chamber music, theater performances, solo acts and much more. Participants can buy a $70 pass to access all parts of the four-day event.
Here’s a rundown of the events:
DAY 1, Thursday, January 31
The festival’s first day will feature a full evening of intimate performances in downtown Phoenix.
Songbird Coffee and Tea House – $5 suggested donation
7 p.m. show (doors open 6 p.m.)
Featured players include flutist Robin Meiksins and composer and musician Josh Hill.
FilmBar – $12
10:00 p.m. show (doors open 9:30 p.m.)
Featured artists include guitarist Gulli Bjornsson and electronic duo Lace Chamber.
DAY 2, Friday, February 1
Day two will feature a broader spectrum of performances over three concerts showcasing dance and theater as well as music.
Songbird Coffee and Tea House
3 p.m. show
This artist lecture will also include a contemporary Shakuhachi Japanese flute performance by Devon Osamu Tipp.
Phoenix Center for the Arts – $12
7 p.m. show (doors open 6:30 p.m.)
Featured performances include jazz duo Megan Ihnen and Alan Theisen, marimba player Marilyn Clark Silva and contemporary violin duo The Furies.
TransAM Phoenix – $8 suggested donation
7 p.m. show (doors open 6:30)
Featured players include a solo clarinet performance by Unheard-Of//Electronics, singer Jennifer Beattie performing “Spacepants,” as well as work by composer Nick Norton.
The Lunchbox – $12
11 p.m. show (doors open 10:30)
Featured bands include Keith Kelly and the Composer’s Improvisor’s Big Band, and the Driftwood Quintet, who will be celebrating their album release.
DAY 3, Saturday, February 2
Day three kicks off with yoga and continues all day with lecture series and performances at Phoenix College.

Marilyn Clark Silva will lead yoga for musicians.

Gulli Bjornsson will give an artist’s lecture on contemporary composition.
Eric Fischl Gallery at Phoenix College

Featured artists include flutist Brian Allred and percussionist Taylor Long.
5:30 p.m. concert (doors open 5 p.m.)
The second concert at Phoenix College features singer and bass team Departure Duo and “cutting-edge” piano duo HOCKET.

8 p.m. show (doors open 7:30 p.m.)
Featured performances include the chamber ensemble Javelinas and HOCKET.
DAY 4, Sunday, February 3
Day four will start off bright and early with yoga, feature another concert at Songbird and finish up at Megaphone PHX.

11:30 a.m. talk
Sarah Gibson, a composer from Los Angeles, as well as OME staff and other festival performers will host this lecture.

1 p.m. concert (doors open 12:30)
Featured artists include string instrument performers the Semiosis Quartet, as well as andPlay and clarinet player Jeremy Ruth.
4 p.m. concert (doors open 3:30 p.m.)
Featured performers include the electronic TATAT Ensemble and Keyed Kontraptions, a duo playing with the largely unknown contrabass flute and contraforte.
7 p.m. show (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Featured musicians include the OME House Band.
