Bright colors filled Margaret T. Hance Park this weekend for the 26th annual Chinese Week’s Culture and Cuisine Festival, where music, food, vendors and more congregated to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.
The event promoted local businesses owned and operated by Chinese families and gave local artists the chance to showcase their work at booths throughout the event. Traditional dragon dances, martial arts demonstrations and food trucks were just a few of the options for activities that contributed to the festive atmosphere.
Attendee Jacob Cardinal came to the festival with his family and said that his children loved the face paint and he appreciated the food and traditional dancing. Mei-Li Cruz, sister to one of the displayed artists, said that the festival’s cultural exposure to Phoenicians is what made the festival so special.
