Devilishly Healthy welcomes you back to another great year at the Downtown Devil! 2015 has arrived, and with it a whole new array of health and fitness topics has also!

Now that many of us are — or are attempting to — get back on track after the holidays, it’s important to know what is going on in the downtown Phoenix area.

It’s often a grueling task to get back to work, school or both after the holidays. But there’s always a way to spice up and successfully kick-start this process.

For one thing, I would recommend participating in the “Meet Me Downtown” initiative FitPHX has put on. This group meets at 5:15 every monday at The Corner in CityScape. Every Monday a different route is taken, and this is a great way to meet new people and get active all in the downtown area.

It’s also a good way to break fitness back into your routine since it’s once a week. This gradual introduction will allow for a smoother transition into a more rigorous fitness routine and will also allow you to get used to your new work or school schedule.

Plus, this is a great way to become acquainted with healthy eats in the downtown area, such as the brand-new Grabbagreen that has opened in Cityscape.

This restaurant has an array of healthy options like different juices, smoothies and healthy food choices. It really is a great option if you’re pressed for time and want something healthy!

Additionally, one thing that is not your typical “health” affiliated activity is the Bark Break event on select Wednesdays. The Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA bring puppies to the Civic Space Park in hopes that they will get adopted by loving downtown residents.

This is a great activity for your mental and physical well-being, as you’re allowed to play with the puppies, get a little active and also relieve some stress while you’re at it. You might even improve the life of a little puppy who’s looking for a home! Be sure to check this event out Wednesday, January 21st…today from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.!

The real key to getting back into your health and fitness routine is to not jump back in completely in a really short amount of time. Take baby steps for a few weeks so that you don’t overwhelm your body and mind with the sudden influx of a billion things to do.

Do take your time, but also realize that bikini season is upon us! A few weeks of transitional, low endurance-type activity is more than enough to get back into your regular routine. But until then — enjoy the neighborhood walks, new eats and of course the puppies!

Stay healthy, my friends!
