Your dose of inspiration.
Downtown Devil’s newest columnist Holly Bernstein wants to give readers a weekly dose of inspiration. So sit back with a cup of coffee and read about the good things going on in downtown Phoenix. (Sierra LaDuke/DD)

I am a news junkie. I watch the news every night and I spend hours reading articles to keep up with the latest breaking stories. While I continue to be fascinated with everything that is going on in the world, I can’t help but realize that good news is often overshadowed.

While I am in no way against the distribution of important information, good news deserves to be highlighted in its own way. Faith in humanity, as it is so often called, is not lost. So I encourage you to sit back with a cup of coffee (or, if like me, you don’t drink coffee, your go-to favorite drink) and read about the good things going on in downtown Phoenix.

People continue to inspire me every day, and here, as I highlight the many inspiring stories that deserve to be told, I hope you can be inspired, too!

Along with highlighting inspiring stories, I also hope to influence others to give back to their community. I have been an active volunteer ever since I joined the National Honor Society in high school, and I continue to give back to this day.

Consider this column your cozy little space to read about the great opportunities you have to give back to downtown Phoenix. I hope to not only put a smile on your face, but also to encourage you to put a smile on others’ faces.

But wait, there’s more!

Another goal I have for this column is to make it interactive. If you have any inspirational stories or know of ways people can volunteer in downtown Phoenix, I encourage you to share them with me. There are countless hidden stories and opportunities, and it is my goal to get the word out.

So sit back with that cup of coffee (or your alternative chosen beverage) and join me in this journey.
