Nine venues. Nine musical artists. Countless wines and appetizers. All for $30? Challenge accepted.

Dozens of attendees participated in the fifth annual Downtown Musical Stroll on Saturday afternoon, hosted by the Phoenix Symphony.

Downtown restaurants such as the Arrogant Butcher, Copper Blues, Squid Ink and Tom’s Tavern were among the restaurants and bars that took part in the event.

City of Maricopa officials encouraged residents to drive downtown to support one band from the southern Valley city, “A Touch of Class,” which played at Tom’s Tavern.

“You know, we’re a very close-knit community in Maricopa,” said Henry Wade, councilman for the city. “Any time any of our citizens do something special, we try to make sure that they feel encouraged and that we participate in what they’re doing.”

It was the the Jim Nistico Trio’s third year playing jazz for the Phoenix Symphony.

“I’m happy to keep coming back,” said Jim Nistico, the saxophone player for the band. “It’s really great. It’s a thrilling event.”

Julia Cooper and her husband Greg enjoyed meeting people from other parts of the country on the stroll.

“It’s not only the music that’s been great, but just talking to other people you normally wouldn’t have a chance to interact with,” Cooper said.
