222 E. Roosevelt St. wasn’t always GreenHaus. For half a century it was the 307 Lounge, a bar and early LGBT community watering hole. It was during this period of the building’s history that DeGrazia painted his 47-foot mural to (allegedly) pay off a bar tab. After the 307 Lounge disappeared in 2000, the property changed hands before finally landing with Cole and Dayna Reed in February 2012. After 3 years, the Reeds are moving to Portland to pursue their future in a state with better parentage protection rights. The future for 222 E. Roosevelt St., however, is not as clear, as developers and community members clash over how much of the property and the art to preserve.
