Looking for something spooktacular to do on the 31st? Don’t fret! There are several festivities downtown from costume parties with live music to art exhibits. Because let’s be honest — going door to door trick-or-treating at the downtown apartment complexes doesn’t sound very promising.

Join Crescent Ballroom on Second Avenue and Van Buren Street for the fourth annual Sean Watson’s Costume Ball. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show, featuring its namesake as well as Body Tricks, Luna Aura and DJ My Funeral, will start at 9 p.m. No costume, no entry — so dress for success.

CityScape at First and Washington streets will be a Halloween hub this Friday.

LUSTRE Rooftop Garden is having a Day of the Dead-themed party with DJs, specialty drinks, Day of the Dead makeup artists and a costume party. Admission costs $10 online and $15 at the door.

Copper Blues is hosting “Friday LIVE goes Dead … Dead 20’s,” a speakeasy-themed party with multiple costume prizes. Happy hour is 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with live music beginning at 5 p.m. The Halloween party begins at 8:30 p.m.

Bowlloween at Lucky Strike starts at 7 p.m. and there is a $1,000 prize for best costume. So dress up, but make sure it’s flexible enough to bowl some strikes. Admission is $10.

Gypsy Bar next door will be participating in the same costume contest with the $1,000 prize. Come for complimentary tricks and treats and spooky dancers.

If you need some fuel for doing the Monster Mash, Squid Ink Sushi Bar will be dishing up some Halloween specials from 11 a.m. to midnight.

Day of the Dead handmade altars are on display at Burton Barr Central Library until Nov. 1. The exhibit, Heroes: La luminaria de mi vida, features artists who chose to honor personal heroes in their lives. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Catch the last day of the Monster Menagerie exhibit including creepy crawlers crafted by 15 artists at the Alwun House. Stay for the macabre-style Monsters Ball at 7 p.m. with live music and a thrilling dance party. Tickets can be bought in advance for $12 or for $17 at the door.
