The Crescent Ballroom is hosting their fourth annual Los Dias de la Crescent music festival with a couple of changes to its usual format on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

Each year, Crescent assembles a group of diverse bands for a music-filled night and a packed audience. This year will bring changes in the festival’s venue and admission price.

Instead of being held in the usual Civic Space Park, the venue will be right on Second Avenue.

Charlie Levy, who runs the Crescent Ballroom, feels that Second Avenue is a “great spot” and likes the idea of it being right in front of Crescent, with a nice view of the rest of downtown Phoenix.

In addition to a change in venue, there is also a change in the price of admission. The event, which was free last year, is now setting a price for entry.

“Last year, we relied on a lot of sponsors and, you know, it worked out good and I think we had a great time,” Levy said. “Then this year we didn’t have as many sponsors.”

There are ten bands being showcased at Los Dias de la Crescent this year, and for $10 a ticket, Levy said he felt it was a pretty good deal.

This year will be Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra’s first time participating in Los Dias de la Crescent.

“We have heard only good things,” said David Marquez, a member of Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, wrote in an email. “It will be an honor and we’re sure a great experience for the band to participate amongst so many amazing Arizona bands, and to come together as a community.”

Other participating performances include Playboy Manbaby, Chicha Dust, WLFPCK, Flamenco Por La Vida, Snake! Snake! Snakes!, Jerusafunk, Snake Burner, Sean Watson and Sugar Thieves. Regardless of the changes made, the bands, as well as the coordinators, are excited to see what is in store.

“I’m probably most excited about this year,” Levy said.
