The Rundown: Parking is just one piece of the larger planning puzzle

(Annika Cline/DD)
Downtown Phoenix’s patchwork of surface parking lots are plentiful, but commuters still say there isn’t anywhere to park. The Rundown looks into parking downtown from a planning perspective. (Annika Cline/DD)

It’s like a giant jigsaw and it puzzles many Phoenix residents — parking downtown on a weekday during business hours is not always an easy feat. There are parking rates and time limits, and then there is the matter of actually finding a space. But why has parking downtown become such an issue this year?

Hosts Annika Cline and Agnel Philip set out to answer this question. Urban planners point to Phoenix’s city plan to explain today’s problems, while community members search for small-scale solutions. They discover parking is about much more than the hunt for a spot; it’s a literal road map of Phoenix’s past.
