For many businesses in the Roosevelt Row area, parking is limited to what’s available on the curb out front. But sometimes, those coveted spots are taken by people on their way to work or school, rather than customers of the business itself. That’s why some business owners on Fifth and Sixth streets, in between Roosevelt and Garfield streets, got together to ask the city for parking signs.
All-day parkers now have to leave their vehicles elsewhere, because those streets now have a 2-hour limit. Businesses like Jobot Coffee and Dining and Lawn Gnome Publishing have noticed improvements since the sign installation, but the signs do come with a trade-off: customers must leave after a couple hours, too.
This story is part of Downtown Devil’s parking series, “Spacial Awareness”, which aims to take an in-depth look at parking concerns and advancements in downtown Phoenix from various angles. Stay tuned for further coverage.
